What the Fran

Blaugust

Kicking off Blaugust with a post about... Blaugust. Naturally.

I didn't do Blaugust last year. I thought about it. I ended up posting twenty-one times anyway. But I was only six months into having the site and it seemed like pressure rather than a challenge. A year on and my blogging muscle are all warmed up and ready to go.

I'm sad to hear the originator, Belghast, is no longer with us. My sympathies to his family and friends. This project and the wider community he has brought together is an amazing tribute.

A few times lately I've thought I'm all out of ideas - nothing scheduled, no drafts I actually want to write. And that's fine, I can miss a day. I do like momentum though. (I should have said in my post about streaks, it's not so much about building a streak to look back on but momentum to push me forwards. Something like that.)

But then, looking at this emptiness, an idea comes. And another. And another, maybe a spin off of the first. The ideas spill out, the writing is fast, and before I know it I've got another week. Last month I managed twenty-six posts so it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Probably I need to expect this. These posts will get posted and I'll be back to 'no ideas' which will then come all together.

Which is why I won't be writing from scratch on the same day. That's just not how my brain works and while brains are not immutable I don't see any reason to change right now. Perhaps that will be another challenge another time.

Indiecator has more details about the themed weeks as well. Obviously I like the community aspects of the challenge. Not just the 'all in this together' and the chance to find new people but the explicitly community based extension challenge about interacting with others. I might not do it, but I like it.

So happy Blaugust to everyone taking part, and happy August to everyone else.
