Blogstory

AuguStory, the story of your blog by Robert Birming encourages sharing the story of our blog. Chloe at For No One has put together some great additional prompts and I've enjoyed stories by Sylvia and Becky at Online Goddess.

My blogging story is not that interesting - while I've been banging around making sites since 1999 I've not consistently had a blog. Different projects have come and gone. Personal blogs, politics, local stuff, TV shows, a game, courses I was doing, on Diaryland, Blogger, Wordpress of course, Tumblr.

What got this iteration going was a few days of getting enthused about the indieweb. It was early February and it was miserable and grey and I needed something fun and creative. I love writing, it is how I think, and while I write fiction every day I was a bit stalled on some of those projects and was interested in a different kind of outlet.

The first thing I wrote here, in Trying something, was

Trying something a little weird for the little and weird internet. The web used to be fun. And I used to like that.

What I could not imagine was how weird and fun this was going to be.

A little blog history

The first post was on 4th February 2025 and I posted four times that month. In May were the first batches of consecutive-day posting - twice I posted four days in a row. In June I posted the first monthlog and did some title trades.

August 2025 is when I look back and think something changed. I found my rhythm a bit more. August also had my first proper links roundup, which is later than I would have guessed. The hundredth post came in September. In October I made a bunch of pages. I ended the year consistently blogging most days.

Into 2026 and at the end of February I noted there were 206 posts. In May I went a bit CSS wild. July contained my longest run yet: 15 consecutive days. Hopefully I'll be breaking that this month with Blaugust.
