Dealing with many minor annoyances of my digital setup
So I talked yesterday about degoogling and, along with that, the many minor annoyances of my digital setup.
My enduring hatred of Macs endures. I find them borderline unusable. Except, guess what my laptop is. I don't use it much. It was a free hand-me-down so as yet I don't hate it enough or use it enough to buy another laptop. Still, I should see what I can do about it.
Why are mobile apps so much worse? I very nearly exclusive use my phone or tablet. My tablet feels like a laptop - I have a keyboard and sometimes even use a mouse. Sometimes I forget it's not a laptop. That it doesn't run programmes but apps. Firefox the mobile app is so much worse. Then there's Notion. Every time I see Notion wanting to update I resign myself to some new fresh hell. It's been years since speech marks wrapped properly. It's crawling with AI. One of my French apps crashes constantly and has been unusable for over a month.
This sounds like all moans so how about some wins. I finally made myself a site skin on ao3 to address the spectacularly tiny font there! Ao3 is why I have the zoom on my browser set so high, which causes problems on other sites. Now just ao3 is at 150%.
Overcame my aversion to logging into Firefox and now I can share links between my devices without needing Pushbullet! It was a case of considering the lesser of the two weevils, more apps versus signing in. But it is loads easier this way.
Changed the theme here on Bear. I really liked the way my previous one had the nav on the side but on mobile it's never on the side. And I'm 98% of the time on mobile. Not that I go on my own site but I knew it was happening and it bothered me.
