Ear worms
Thinking about music ahead of the music memories blog carnival and I need to exorcise these ear worms that are plaguing me.
The other week I watched Jurassic Park. It's still a great film. In part I thought to watch it because I heard the theme tune weeks earlier and the Jurassic Park theme is possibly my ultimate ear worm. Once it gets in it's there for weeks. So I thought I might as well watch the film and be singing it a few weeks more.
Last week we were away at my in-laws and did a forty-eight hour childcare which involved a lot of Bluey. Now, I love Bluey but I slightly less love the fact I've been spontaneously erupting into the theme song all week.
My wife has been listening to a lot of Venga Boys and constructing some sort of narrative - don't ask. So I've had Going to Ibiza stuck in my head.
Then in the car, she played Natalie Imbruglia's Torn. Prefacing it with "Hey, Franny..." because she knows it's a problem for me - that I'm going to be singing it for the next three weeks. I don't even like it! I mean, I don't dislike it but it's not a song I would select on my own accord.
One afternoon a week I am subjected to the radio in a community space. There's a chap who likes to complain how boring it is and say, "We need some music on!" and I reply, "We do, you just don't have your hearing aid in." And I wish we didn't because every single week there's this Take That song, which I had to look up: Rule the World. I don't like Take That, I have never liked Take That. But I can't stop singing this bloody song.
