Everyone's doing it
You know that sort of sneery, disdainful way people say "Everyone's got a blog" or starting a podcast or writing a book.
Okay? And? Why wouldn't they? Why shouldn't they?
Like there's "too many." Like having lots of something automatically makes it bad.
The beauty of Sturgeon's Law is that the more stuff there is the greater the actual number of good things in the ten percent. Statistically, in order to find stuff I'm interested in, I need there to be a lot of people in general. Because this is niche.
What are these people who say this worried about? Competition? It's not about that. I'm a big believer in a rising tide lifting all ships. There are very few zero-sum games.
Also this expectation someone has to spring into existence fully formed and great at the thing. Few people starting podcasts are professional podcasters when they do so. Let people learn!
Next time someone says "everyone's" doing something like this I'm going to say, "Great, isn't it?" Give them no room to manoeuvre. Smother them with optimism.
