Houseplant tour
I've been procrastinating one of my autumn jobs which is doing a houseplant audit. I thought also making it a blog post might help motivate me.
There's no app or anything. I just have my own notes. An accurate list of who's alive and who's died. I also like to take progress pictures. I'm bad at remembering to note when I potted on or propagated. Ideally I'd log in spring and autumn but I think I didn't even do last autumn so there's some catching up to do.
I like this little area.
In the end, it wasn't that difficult. At the weekend I went round and took photos. Not necessarily in situ because of lighting or crowding. A tip, if I'm qualified to suggest such a thing, is to also do a top-down view. Last night I went through my list and updated the entries and added new photos. Archived any that no longer exist - two didn't make it through the winter. Then added the new propagations. My version control and naming convention is a bit out of hand so I've got some called Pothos 3.2 etc.
This is a summer-only situation
None of these are rare or impressive plants. That's not my aim. I want plentiful greenery, cheaply and easily. There's not much variety because the majority of them are propagations. So there's lots of pothos, jade, monstera, and money plants.
A little nursery going on here
In the winter they will migrate more towards the windows. There's also a jungle gauntlet at the top of the stairs I really need to sort out. You kind of have to walk through a monstera. I'll take a photo when I've fixed that and tidied the landing.
Thirty-nine total, plus several aloe vera babies and seven jade babies that don't have their own logs yet. Several have left this year to friends and family, and to a charity sale. If you come to my house and mention the plants I will try to give you some.
