Ladies chasing monsters, being chased by monsters

All I want is to write silly stories about ladies chasing monsters, or being chased by monsters, and falling in love.

This realisation happened to me in November 2023 and had been a long time coming. In November 2023 specifically we'd been watching a bunch of Godzilla films. I was writing (am still writing) a monster-hunting fic. I'd just finished writing a series of lightly parody fantasy stories. I like D&D. Xena and Buffy are formative influences. I'm a bog monster. All the pieces were there. There has always been monstrosity in the air.

And it's all been downhill from there, really.

I've not yet written anything where it's the monster and the girl falling in love. Maybe this will come. Probably this will come. I've no confidence in my brain being reasonable about this.

So when I say monster girl it is not in the grand tradition of anime/manga getting it on with a half-snake dominatrix. Monster girl could be a monster. Could be a girl who is into monsters. Sort of in the way Mulder gets called Monster Boy.

My reading has run riot. Fully given in to all the Jules Verne. Discovered Sylvia Townsend Warner completely by accident and very into that vibe. Researching the Loch Ness monster stuff - not the monster so much as the history of it, how that all came together.

There's only one new thing I've done since then that hasn't been monstrous. And even that was kind of secretly half-inspired by a monster thing (it takes place largely at sea, and I was thinking sea beasts at the time.) And one idea I've resurrected, that was pre-monster era.

Running around after monsters is cool, people who are going to get geeky about cryptozoology or whatever are cool. I just think it's all cool. The psychology behind all this must be weird and wonderful. I'm pretty clear on mine, however. If a girl could love a monster maybe she could love me. And isn't that a consoling thought for us all.
