Leaving my garden for a week
I'm going away on Friday and really looking forward to it. The only drawback is leaving my garden for a week.
It is a good time to be in the garden right now. Lots to do and it's growing fast in both ideal and less preferable ways. It can quickly get out of hand in a week.
So I've been trying to get as many jobs done as possible (all jobs done is never possible) and harvested some stuff and generally tidy as my mum will come to check on things and water. Then I thought I would take the opportunity to wax lyrical about my garden for a post.

This is a particularly nice little spot in my garden right now. The little blue flowers are green alkanet, technically a weed, but one I am very sympathetic to. They are at the foot of the pumpkin arch.

I have two half-barrels of strawberries. One is under a net, which I don't like the look of but the squirrels and pigeons absolutely pillage the strawberries and they just need to leave some for us.

Baby sweetcorns. You can't see it in the photo but I made a little stick fence around them to stop cats and foxes digging and shitting on them.

Next to the sweetcorn is the broad bean patch, looking rather collapsed right now. Yesterday's portion of broad beans. One had a woodlouse living in it but that's okay.

These sweetpeas just live next to my shed. They have always been here, I do nothing about them.

Some onions and carrots. I sowed the carrots thickly because they usually get eaten by slugs as a method of thinning them out. Then of course they didn't. So I will have to pick them strategically.
Other stuff going on: some of the tomatoes are big enough for their end pots, the cabbages and cauliflowers persist, the potatoes are flowering, shockingly all four sunflowers are still standing. The salad bed is a glorious mess with a frog living in it. I didn't want to plant out the pumpkins and then abandon them for a week so they will have to wait.
I do take photos of the whole garden but they look absolutely chaotic. I enjoy the wilderness look myself and I think it looks nice in person but this does not translate to photos.
