What the Fran

Music this year

It's the most wonderful time of the year: Spotify Wrapped is out! Now, I know Spotify are Bad Guys. I'm working on it. But no one knows me like the Spotify algorithm knows me. Previous years' top tens are on listening. I checked several times yesterday then my wife and I unveiled ours together, we also got live reactions from my sister, so it was a whole fun event.

I'd been sure of my top two, just not the order. And I was right but it was nowhere near as close as I had imagined. I love how this year the album shows the number of listens for all the songs. Just the sort of useless information I like to know for no good reason.

This year I knew my total minutes would be down - I've started listening to audiobooks and also taken fewer long journeys than last year. It's fun how something like music stats can make me realise that. But it was a 9000 minute drop. Almost a full week less. Wild. 40,818 total. Still, one day I listened for 746 minutes - that's over twelve hours. Turns out my wife was out till midnight and I had mostly been the garden, so that tracks.

My Top Ten:

  1. as long as I'm lost with you - the great stoyan duo x305
  2. Sharpen the Knives - Oskar Haag x266
  3. Berlin Without Return - Voxtrot x99
  4. Five Seconds - Twin Shadow x83
  5. Careful You - TV On the Radio x70
  6. Imagined Light - Topshe x64
  7. Preludes 117 - Debussy, Dan Golding x63
  8. Mondo 77 - Looper x61
  9. East Coast - HAFFWAY x50
  10. Myth - East Coast x47

The Debussy is the Untitled Goose Game song I had on repeat during my birthday party. Wrecked my Wrapped for those kids. Right down at the bottom at number one hundred they were still on 15 listens. Last year's number one isn't in the top hundred at all, which doesn't surprise me. All the top ten I first listened to this year and all but two were from my Spotify Discover Weekly. Debussy is the fault of the Goose, and Imagined Light is from the film All We Imagine As Light.
