My seventeen-year-old self and the Wayback Machine
In 2001 I was seventeen and had a few geocities sites for films and shows I was into. One day I got an email from a girl who was also into Buffy and had been reading my site. Tomorrow it's our anniversary.
Thanks to the wonderful Wayback Machine I can still visit that site, and my others, and so, in a way, that seventeen-year-old. Which I've done a couple of times.
Which is a strange feeling! Probably most of us have complicated feelings about our seventeen-year-old selves. Overall I'm sympathetic. But sad. She had been through some shit but was in a good place and thought that had been the worst of it. Reader, it had not.
I'm very grateful for the excellent job she did about that email though.
