October 2026 monthlog
It is of course Halloween today and my four-year-old nephew celebrated by holding onto my head and whispering right into my ear, "Auntie Fran. Did you know. There are bugs. Who want to drink your blood."
Updates here
- 26 posts, including the 400th. Also Pages on pages for the blog carnival, and the autumn edition of Joyride
- added a photo page inspired by Robert Birming and also going to try to update my some.pics occasionally
Progresses elsewhere
- very domestic month doing autumn cleaning and prepping for winter. Photographed all my houseplants, cooked up the carrots and cauliflower from the garden, washed all the windows, tidied up the still untidy front garden, got my shoes fixed
- went to Ikea again, watched my sister run a 10k event, did a couple of school pickups, did not go to a fairy masquerade ball but did help out, painted a bedroom, spent a day with my aunt, had some really good falafel, visited friends, went on a bookshop crawl, saw an opera
Favourites this month
- The Making of Home: The 500 Year Story of How Our Houses Became Homes by Judith Flanders. Had it from the library but it's such gold I just had to buy my own copy
- My Year in Paris with Gertrude Stein by Deborah Levy
- The Book by Keith Houston, and The Book-Makers by Adam Smyth
- do not speak to me unless you are quoting Nigerian Wicked
Not much music because I was listening to a long audiobook and other older stuff on repeat.
♫ Naked on the Floor - Victoria Bigelow, Crybaby - Nanna
November things
- got a November-y challenge set with the writing group. Chapter here I come. My wife and I are trying to gamify a creative November
