The Hampshire Conspiracy
Inspired by the Bielefeld Conspiracy I'd like to propose a similar one regarding Hampshire.
I simply don't believe in the existence of Hampshire, allegedly a county on the south coast of Britain. The south in general is shrouded in mystery. Hampshire I am convinced is entirely mythical.
The Bielefeld version denies the existence of people from there. I've met people who say they are from Hampshire but I think it's a cover. Aliens and whatnot, just saying Hampshire like it means something. Aliens because, with all due respect, many of these people have been true eccentrics including one with a name he clearly pulled out of a Dickens book and said he commuted to work on a ferry. Human impersonators just not quite getting it right.
Inexplicably*, despite so many place names in the States being copy-pasted from the UK, Hampshire is the only county that got turned into a state? Honestly I think that adds fuel to my argument.
The county seat is Winchester, a medieval seat of kings, which all sounds very Camelot to me. Alfred the Great, the next closest thing to King Arthur. And Cnut who told never told the tide to turn back. Myth, I tell you.
