Updates on finishings
Progress on projects!
- Finished one of the weird things! Hooray
- Finished another thing in a scaled down version of what it could be. Still hooray
- Made a very clear plan on how to finish a chapter of a thing and though I haven't been working on it exclusively I've certainly been working on it more than previously
The scaled down idea might be a good way for me to finish things. Adjust expectations and break stuff down into smaller chunks. There's other stuff I could add, may yet add, but as it stands it's a perfectly functional, fully formed thing.
Last week I even made a finishing week. It was sort of the end of the month. Made it a goal to get a bunch of stuff wrapped up: tidying the papers in the study, beta notes for someone, reorganising my emails, trying to catch up on my French hours, putting up curtains that have been waiting for a month... Stuff that could have dragged into another week (/month) but it's much better not to.
May was a busy month. As was April. I've been away a lot - eight weekends out of nine - and physically not great so inevitably some stuff has slipped. I've not read as much as usual or done as much French or finished this course I'm doing. But that's okay, I tell myself.
Not a new lesson but something hammered home recently is that stuff doesn't take as long to do as I think it will. This is something I run into all the time but am apparently still learning. I'll often put off doing something by thinking "But I don't have the hour that will need." (Or, more often, have it but don't want to spend it.) Except, when I actually do it, it's ten minutes - not an hour at all. I time myself or set a timer to do increments and it will be well finished within the first one.
I took my vote button off but I really enjoy browsing the discover feed and always drop a like on posts that I enjoy / find interesting / appreciate the effort of.
Today, for instance, I have enjoyed:
- West Marches Keeps My RPG Dreams Alive by Joan at Thought Scour. For years I've wanted to run a West Marches campaign. There are several DnD/ttrpg Bear blogs, I might make a list.
- A list of things that I'd add if i made my own blogging platform by Kami
Elsewhere on the web:
- Neatnik archives
- IndieWeb Carnival: Take Two - might enter for June?
- Possible Futures zine
- Why were Belle Époque cities beautiful?
