What to learn next
Since I finished two sizable courses at the beginning of the summer I haven't picked up anything new. Well, it's winter now. So here we go.
For me this is less 'learn a new skill' and more studying. It's not a very thorough or maybe even sensible distinction but there we are.
Having a personal curriculum is a whole thing now, so there's lots of inspiration and stuff out there. Like this extremely cool Halt and Catch Fire Syllabus. Any excuse for a rewatch frankly.
I like a laid out plan because, as my literature curriculum shows, I go off at half cock all over the place. I'm reading the books but on a whim or when I come across stuff. Except I'm trying to read for context so actually grouping stuff together is helpful. This also means that literal curriculums and a lesson plan are helpful to me.
Excited about Designers & Dragons: Origins by Evil Hat, currently on Backerkit. For my games curriculum.
Some of the stuff on my trying new things list was technically stuff to learn. A bit of a list is forming up:
- Latin
- maths
- my usual history or literature
- a curriculum of games
- get a French tutor
- poetry. A short course or session at the arts centre perhaps
- some work-related stuff
Places to do this:
- local adult education centre, arts centre, museum and such. It can be good doing stuff in person
- edX
- Brilliant just went free and Khan Academy
- Open University and free OpenLearn
- Future Learn
- Codecademy and FreeCodeCamp
- Coursera and Udemy
- and I'm collecting together some personal curriculum stuff
