Blaugust debriefing
Blaugust isn't over technically, I know. But I have my monthlog scheduled for tomorrow so I'm good to go. In the grand tradition of such things, here's what I learned.
I didn't keep an actual count but I have added at least six new people to my blogroll, RSS reader, what have you, from the official participant list. I really enjoyed reading everyone's blogs for 132 Blaugust posts and I'm going to do another one after the month is properly over.
While I posted every day there's no way I would have been able to write a post every day. This post is evidence - I started the draft mid-month to pop in things I knew I would want to think about later. I'm writing it up on Friday 28th because today, Sunday 30th, I'm actually away at my in-laws. I knew from the outset I wouldn't be able to write from scratch every day. Maybe that can be a challenge for next year. There's lots of people who post every day as a matter of course and, as always, huge respect to them.
For some reason I ended up writing more than usual about books and reading? Just in the mood I suppose. Otherwise the topics and ideas all seem pretty standard. I did do a few prompts like Blogstory, the IndieWeb book club on The Mulai, the IndieWeb blog carnival about purpose, and one of the themed Blaugust posts on keeping motivated.
I've not crunched any numbers but looking at my rolling blog stats and just from what I remember I don't think my posts have been shorter than usual. They are always pretty short, so it would be hard. I've only made one new page this month and done less upkeep on my other pages so that feels like a bit of a trade-off. If I'm working on my site I'm writing posts not pottering around tidying things up.
There's more than ten draft posts hanging around currently. So there are still plenty of ideas. It's not burning me out or anything. Though I will probably go back to my previous rhythm, which, to be fair, is still about twenty-five posts a month. It just has more wiggle room.
In conclusion: great fun, will do again.
